Located in one of the most developed regions of China, Zhaoyuan covers an area of 1,433 km2 with a population of 580,000. In 1984, approval by the State Council, Zhaoyuan was listed in the first group of cities to open its doors to foreign countries. Up to now, Zhaoyuan is No. 53 in China's top 100 powerful counties/cities in terms of overall economic strength and development. Zhaoyuan has been awarded the name of "Sanitation City of the State" and the "Environment Protection Model City of the State".

Zhaoyuan's industry structure is perfect with broad developing future. The whole city now has more than 1400 industrial enterprises. It has formed the industrial production system with range of gold, electronic, chemical, building material, foodstuffs, machinery, light industry and textiles etc., which constitute 8 industries pillar. The major industrial production reached over 6000 kinds, including 130 kinds that have been exported to over 50 regions and countries.

Zhaoyuan has rich tourism attractions. The coming out temperature of natural spa within the city proper can reach 970C. Based on the spa resource, the developing and constructive project of " China's Spa City" has been listed as key tourism constructive project by Shandong province. Considering gold and silver, the touring line of "Gold Tourism to China's Gold Metropolis" is under construction. Zhaoyuan's coastal shallow beach is a natural bathing beach. The " Resort" on Bohai seashore is a good place for tourism and summer resort.

In the case of mutual development, Zhaoyuan city has stipulated series of preferential policies on land, tax collection, foreign currency's administration and investment promotion.
